IAEVG international career specialist conference held in Riga online

The 44-th annual career specialist conference of the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG) take place on October 19-21 in Riga, Latvia, bringing together career guidance professionals from around the world. IAEVG scientific and practical conference is organized by the State Education Development Agency (VIAA) and the Latvian Career Support Development Association (LKAAA), to highlight the importance of guidance in economic development as well as the development of the field of career guidance in general.

Minister of Education and Science Anita Muižniece admits: “It is important to provide support people, especially at these difficult times, when such unpredictable changes take place in the processes of education and employment. Remote work and study modes bring additional confusion and sometimes increase uncertainty. But career information, career education and career guidance form a single system that helps people understand their opportunities and abilities, their choices and the importance of their future.”

VIAA director Dita Traidās emphasizes: “We are pleased to organize this conference, which brings together career development professionals - researchers, practitioners, educators and students from all over the world. It is a great opportunity to identify innovative solutions in the field of career guidance. Despite the fact that the IAEVG annual conference is taking place online for the first time and its participants do not have the opportunity to visit our country, we are pleased to contribute to the promotion of career development support at the international level.”

At the IAEVG conference, career professionals will be able to broaden their horizons, find ideas and methods for improving their work in order to increase the potential of career guidance in the field of both industry professionals and associations. For the first time, at the conference with support of Latvian specialists has summarized the most popular methods and materials of IAEVG national correspondents, which are available for viewing in the virtual exhibition.

During one of the sessions of the international conference will also host the National Career Support Conference “Teacher Career Counselor Resources for Promoting Self-Effectiveness”, which will be attended by pedagogical career counselors and other interested people from Latvia.

The IAEVG brings together guidance professionals from around the world. The cooperation partner of the Association in Latvia is VIAA, which this year has earned the right to organize the annual international conference with the support of the Euroguidance program and LKAAA. IAEVG 2020 Riga international conference under discussion

Due to concerns around Covid 19 related travel bans world wide, the Conference organizers are currently seeking a viable alternative, in communication with the IAEVG board. This means that the conference will not take place on site in Riga on 20-22 October, and possible options include an online event, or an onsite event at a later date. The decision will be made after May 12, 2020.

Extension of the Early bird rate and Call for Papers deadline

In order to address concerns over the impact of the coronavirus to the organisation of public events and ban on international travel, conference organizers are extending the Early bird registration rate and the deadline for the Call for Papers of the IAEVG International conference in Riga until 30 April 2020.

Conference organisers are following the overall situation and guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation, and in particular the decisons of the Latvian government regarding orgnisation of public events. Should any changes to the conference plan be required, information about this will be made available on the conference website.
